Anambra moves to fight open defecation

Open defecation has become a serious social malice that should not be tolerated any further as it predisposes the citizens to diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid and poliomyelitis, among others’ which are contacted through water contamination.

The above assertion was made by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Ven. Barr. Amaechi Okwuose, as he arrived UNIZIK junction earlier today, to see for himself the extent of defecation from some unscrupulous elements and and also paid an impromptu visit to the motor parks within the axis.

Disturbed by what he saw, Ven Barr Okwuosa, stated that open defecation is a scourge that everyone should discourage.

_“It is very clear, most houses within awka do not have adequate toilet facilities and that infomed the situation where people will defacate openly . we have placed a fine of 10,0000 on any individual caught defecating”_ he enthused

To curtail the menace, the MD stated that the joint force between them and OchaBrigade will be sustained. _“Other steps are also been employed, for instance, before any building is approved now, if it is male, and one for the disable”_.

_“Every public buildings, including gas stations, supermarket, restaurants, etc, must  have 3 toilet facilities, one for male, one for female and one for disabled”_.

Failure to comply within 21 days  will bring about the sealing off of those structures and building.

The MD  also went round the motor parks within the visinity and was appalled at the low toilet standard of some of the motor parks, of which a number of them are no longer in use.

He instructed that those motor parks, like Eastern mass transit and Ekwulobia Mass Transit, should build atleast 3 standard toilets that will serve the Male, Female and Disabled.

According to him, concerted efforts are made to sensitize the people on the danger of open defecation.

Government of willie Obiano, Ven. Barr. Amaechi Okwuosa stated,  is very serious about giving Anambra befitting development, and ACTDA will not compromise its standard.
