The Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Tony Oli has ruled out the state chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as “an enemy', whose activities he vowed never to attend if not for a pressure from a friend.
Oli, who was speaking at the SWAN 56 years anniversary organised by the state chapter, accused the sports writers of been a fault finders and playing an opposition political role to undermine the progress of the commission and his downfall.
He said, “Is all about attacks on the commission and me from SWAN. I am not competing with SWAN. SWAN accused me of not having any programme and activities. I have done a lot of grassroot sports development which has earned many laurels to the state. We have some youths who are in scholarship in Abuja courtesy of the grassroots sports development in the state. I don't know why the SWAN is on my neck.
“I have achieved alot in sports development which I did not want celebrate on media. The police game is taking place in Anambra state and all of you ran to the police commissioner to show solidarity and love and nobody care to involve me. You want to tell the police you love them. I am not distracted by what you and others say about me so long the governor approves my activities.”
However, a veteran sports writer and guest lecturer at the occasion, Mr Victor Nwangwu, urged the chairman of the commission to make peace with SWAN, which he said the commission should be detailing its activities for reportage on media reportage.
