Anambra 2021: Assembly speaker, NASS members, others root support for Ex-CBN governor

As the Anambra state November 6 governorship poll draws nearer, some stakeholders of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) have thrown their weight behind the gubernatorial ambition of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, appealing to the party to make is standard flag bearer. 

The stakeholders, who spoke at the state party secretariat in Awka, on Thursday, where Soludo briefed APGA state executive of his intention to run for election, assured that with the ex-CBN governor as governorship candidate, APGA has over 50% chance of replacing Willie Obiano whose tenure elapses on March 17, 2022. 

Speaking at the occasion, the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, posited that several politicians in the state were already consulting and planning to decamp to APGA once Soludo gets the ticket with a view to giving it all round victory. 

Okafor, who was at the occasion with over ten lawmakers of APGA fold, said they were in support of Soludo candidacy because they believed he was the only man capable of assuring victory and retaintiom of APGA government as well as consolidating on Obaino's achievements.

On his part, the member representing Anambra East and West federal constituency, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe and his counterpart for Anaocha-Njikoka-Dunukofia federal constituency, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, assured their unflinching support to the project because according to them, Soludo was a loyal party member with brain to reposition Anambra.

Also speaking, Chief Josephat Ezeokafor, the chairman, JESCO group of companies, pointed out that the governorship hopeful has the connection, ideas and wisdom needed in developing Anambra state like Dubai using the state rich natural endowments.

Others including the APGA chairman of Aguata LGA, where Soludo hails from, Chief Ossy Ezechukwu and Hon. Anthony Okeke, the Chairman of Isuofia political ward, described their brother as a man of his words, royal party member, intellectually sound and able to lift the fortune of the state.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, the former CBN governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, said his vision was to be a vehicle to take all Anambrarians to their destination, adding that if he wins the polls, his administration would create at least a thousand job yearly as well as create enabling environment for all to thrive.

Responding, the state chairman of APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, commended Soludo for indicating interest to rum for the governorship election, assuring that there would be a free and fair credible primary.
