The National Consultative Forum (NCF), has asked the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), to intensify the investigation of the outgoing Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.
The group in a statement in FCT Abuja, the federal capital, called on the anti graft agency to intensify their probe of Obiano's eight years in office especially the management of 8 years Local Government revenue and Covid-19 funds.
Obiano came under the searchlight of EFCC recently over the spending of the Covid-19 fund which his accusers said was not judiciously used for the purpose which it was sent, to cushion the impact of compulsory sit-at- home during the Covid restrictions.
They alleged that the money which runs into billions of naira was diverted and must be accounted for.
But the group expressed fear that typical of NIgeria, EFCC might have dumped the probing of the Governor who they said failed woefully to cushion the impact of Covid-19 inspite of the money allegedly made available to him.
He was also said to have failed to provide basic amenities such as good roads to the people of Anambra State in the last eight years he held sway as the Governor.
In the statement signed by the group's Director of Campaign and Publicity, Comrade Zachcaus Unah Zachcaus, said apart from the Covid-19 fund, Obiano's eight years in office especially his wife's involvement in some alleged financial sleeze in the State should be thoroughly investigated accordingly.
They said the anti -graft agency should equally critically beam their searchlight on the spending of Local Government fund in the State, saying that for eight years Obiano refused to conduct Local Government election so that he would be the custodian of Local Government fund which he succeeded by putting Caretaker Committees to run the Local Governments.
Said the group : " the agency should generally look at the entire eight years of Willie Obiano to ascertain how the State's resources were managed.
The financial activities of Obiano's wife who is the defacto Governor should also not be swept under the carpet".
NCF said that they are keeping a tab on the agency, saying that failure to investigate and punish where necessary the Governor and his aides will bring the credibility of the agency into question.
"We are already furious why the agency has not stepped up action on the investigation of Governor Willie Obiano" few days to of 8 years despotic regime said the group cautioned.
