The Anambra state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), Friday, jointly passed votes of confidence on the Acting Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr Gab. Okpalaeze.

The two professional organisations also appealed to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to confirm Mr Okpalaeze as the substantive Managing Director of the state owned radio and station, ABS having garnered requisite knowledge, expertise, experience and capacity to take the media outfits to Eldorado.

Factcheckng reports that the motion was moved and gained unanimous acceptance when the two organisations paid courtesy calls on the ABS Acting MD.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu expressed dismay that Okpalaeze was previously overlooked and had spent over eight years in a single position without being considered for promotion to become the MD.

Odogwu described Okpalaeze as an astute administrator who serves the station with zeal and dedication, recalling that he held position of the Director of News and Current Affairs before being appointed as the acting MD of the station following the end of tenure of Chief Uche Nworah who was appointed by former Governor Willie Obiano.

Also speaking, the Anambra State Chapter Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Andy Onwualu described Okpalaeze as a round peg in a round hole, adding that he was not only an insider but understood the media outfits, their areas of challenges, improvement and solutions to move the organization forward.

Contributing, the Vice President, Southeast RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu noted that confirmation of Okpalaeze as the MD ABS would be a plus to Soludo led administration having appointed two prominent former staff of the establishment as commissioners nominees for his administration.

Reacting, Mr Gabriel Okpalaeze expressed gratitude to NUJ and RATTAWU and noted that he least expected the magnitude of support and prayers he received from the Unions.

Okpalaeze therefore promised prudent management of resources available in the establishment to uplift the media organisations as he had set out motions in place to turn around things.
