The Campaign for Democracy (CD) and the Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders'Foundation (HURIDE) have called on the Anambra State Police Command to immediately affect the arrest of the suspended Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. Mbazulike Iloka, for alleged murder of his wife, Chidiebere.
The groups in a joint statement made available to newsmen in Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial hub condemned in strong term the alleged murder of Iloka
In the statement signed by the Executive Director of HURIDE and Chairman of CD in South East zone, Dede Uzor A, Uzor, they said the Police should arrest the woman's husband for alleged complicity in her death.
They said if found guilty Governor Chukwuma Soludo should not hesitate to direct the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Anambra State to advise for his diligent trial.
The groups however lauded Governor Soludo for suspending Mba Mba as he is fondly called but warned that nothing should be done to protect the suspended Transition Committee boss if found he has a hand in the death of his wife.
The groups gave the State Police Command seven days ultimatum to arrest and put Iloka behind bars or face massive protest by human right community in South East.
Chidiebere was said to have slumped and died on August 7, 2021, after serving her husband breakfast.
But sources said the woman's death was not natural following bruises said to have been found all over her body.
