Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Wednesday, launched telemedicine, a platform he said would make it possible for diagnosing patients and running other medical services across rural communities through electronic mails (email) and phone calls.

According to Soludo, the telemedicine hub built at Awkzu, Oyi Local Government Area, would serve as a case study in 10 community healthcare centres within the council area before being linked to other medical institutions across the 181 communities.

The governor, who disclosed this at launching of the medical innovation at Comprehensive Medical Centre Awkuzu, Oyi Council Area, explained that it was built by Adimma Awkuzu Association in partnership with Anambra State Ministry of Health.

He added that it would help to boost the healthcare system in Anambra State, as well as correct deficit currently in the healthcare.

Also speaking, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, added that the technology would remotely diagnose and treat patients from any location.

“It is an innovative way of getting access and delivering healthcare through digital devices such as mobile devices and computers. Telemedicine means that you can be in the comfort of your home and book an appointment to see a doctor that is working anywhere in the world," he noted.
