It was a cultural galore garnished with aesthetic, artistic paintings and a sort of funfair at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Anambra State, as the 2022 Batch C Stream 2  corps members held their cultural carnival.


The fiesta, attended by governor Chukwuma Soludo, the traditional ruler of one of the host communities, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu of Umuawulu and others was climaxed with the bestowing of Nnedioranma (Mother General) one of Anambra State on the visiting Acting Director General, NYSC, Mrs Christy Ifeyinwa Uba.


Speaking at the event, Uba, who stormed with some directors of the scheme, expressed happiness over the infrastructural developments in the camp and commended Anambra State government led by governor Chukwuma Soludo and the host community.


She thanked the corps members and staff of the scheme in the State for hospitality given to her, during the visit, describing her visit as home coming, because she is from Anambra State.


Uba further used the occasion to admonish the corps members to remain steadfast, patriots, disciplined and good ambassadors, urging them to see their posting to Anambra as act divine, act of God, and utilise the opportunity to build bridges for future, while impacting lives positively.


"Enjoy the NYSC orientation programme put together in your service year. Be ready, discipline and imbibe leadership skills through the orientation to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour at the end of your service. Your welfare is out outmost priority. I enjoin you all to become security conscious. If you see something, say something so that you will be served better.


"All services in camp is free. Do not pay anyone for any service. Don't pay for your posting. It is our duty to post you to where your services will be acknowledged and utilised. When you cut corners you will get to where you won't be utilised, and perhaps, become frustrated. Anambra State will affect you and relate with you well. Take permission to travel. Avoid free rides. 


"You are to interact with one and another. Build bridges that will help you in future. Anambra is a commercial place. They are good in business. Learn their tricks and skills to become business tycoons in future. On 2023 general elections, note that it is optional. It is an Adhoc assignment.


" You have choice to join or leave it. If you must work as Ad-hoc staff during the election, submit yourself to all the necessary trainings. Be neutral and apolitical. Do not participate in a wrong manner. You are not politicians for now (You may become one in future). If you run fowl of any electoral act, you will go to prison. We will surrender you to the state to handle once you run fowl," she added.


Welcoming the Acting DG to the camp, the State Coordinator, NYSC in Anambra, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma, praised the host communities and Anambra State Government for their kind gestures towards the camp and corps members.


Iruma, while praising the rich cultural displays and exhibitions from all ethnic nationalities during the carnival, reminded the corps members of about one of the objectives of the scheme which is national integration, noting that culture is one unique thing that binds Nigerians together, and according to her, what holds Nigerians together are more than what disintegrates us.


Contributing, governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the State Commissioner for Youths Development, Mr Patrick Aghamba and Igwe Joel Egwuonwu of Umuawulu, assured the corps members of love, peace and tranquility, and programmes and actions that could help them become successful at the end of their service year.


To Eze Ogboka Abuchi Moses, whose team crowned the Acting DG as Nnedioranma I of Anambra State, Mrs Uba is caring and  has used her good office to touch many lives within a short period of time.


Earlier, the Chairperson of the Carnival organising committee, Mrs Anuli Moloku, explained that cultural carnival was part of the activities that make orientation programme exceptional, usually entertaining, informing and educating.
