The joint security team comprising Anambra State Police command, military and paramilitary, on Monday, launched operation udo Ga-Achi zero kidnapping and other violent crimes with a view to maintain peace and order throughout the Easter celebration and beyond.

The State Police Commissioner, Dr Ikioye Orutugu, who launched the initiative at Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA), explained that the operatives would adopt intelligence driven methods geared towards combing criminal flashpoints and hotspots.

According to Orutugu, the team included the police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of State Services (DSS), National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service and Agunaechemba (local vigilante).

He added that the operation would incorporate Stop-and-Search operations, while joint security targeted patrols and operatives would be posted to identify locations with Amorured Personnel Carriers on alert to respond to any untoward situations.

“This strategic move is aimed at dislodging criminal elements. It will also assist the security agencies to stay ahead of criminal threats and reinforce public confidence as well as ensuring the continued safety and security of all residents. The Security Forces are now more motivated, as the operation will give them a more coordinated approach to reclaiming the public space.

“It will also serve as a daily brief to always restrategize as the operation unfolds. We have a joint security information room for Anambra residents to report any suspicious activity. The numbers are: police – 07039194332, NDLEA – 09136832679, NSDC – 08066769442, FRSC – 122, Anambra State Viglinates – 511 and 122, and Others we shall provide as the Operations commence,” he added.

He sought cooperation of Anambra residents for success of the operation through information volunteering, which he said would equally help to ensure crime-free Easter celebration, even as he noted that any team member found wanting would be disciplined.

Earlier, the representatives of Anambra State government, including the State Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Entertainment, Anambra Restaurants and Bar Owners Association (ARBOA) and governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Anticultism, Hon. Kingsley Ezika, assured that the populace would be happy to work with the team.
