As Anambra State November 8 gubernatorial poll draws nearer, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has picked Uzuegbuna Okagbue as runningmate to its flag bearer, Sir Paul Chukwuma.
Okagbue, a political scientist and Chief of Protocol/Deputy Chief of Staff to former governor Willie Obiano, hails from Dunukofia in Anambra Central Senatorial District while his principal, Chukwuma is from Anambra North, thereby making them a strong force to dislodge the incumbent governor Chukwuma Soludo of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on November 8.
He was unveiled at the party’s stakeholders meeting held in Awka, Anambra State capital which was equally attended by the governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma.
Speaking at the occasion, Sir Paul Chukwuma described Okagbue as a master strategist, noting that he was chosen after wide consultation with various stakeholders who equally confirmed his capacity and ability to support in restoring the shining light Anambra State was yearning for.
“We have consulted with political and religious leaders, party and family members. He has the capacity. He is eager to see that the shining light Anambra State is known for is restored. We can rely on him. Anambra State can rely on him. I want you all to support him,” he noted.
Accepting his nomination, the YPP running mate, Mr Uzuegbuna Okagbue pledged loyalty to the candidate and YPP in totality, adding that he would invest his resources and contacts towards ensuring that YPP triumph at the November poll.
Also speaking, the Southeast zonal Chairman of YPP, Hon. Mike Ejezie, expressed confidence on the Deputy’s ability to support his principal to transform Anambra State upon winning the election, while the party’s State Chairman, Prince Moses Obi acknowledged that the innate qualities of Okagbue contributed to his extraordinary performance while in office.
Also, the Chairmen of the party from across the 21 LGAs, hailed Chukwuma for allowing the stakeholders and members of the party to select his running mate, an exercise they believed would contribute immensely towards uniting the members and ensuring that YPP takeover Anambra State.
