A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon Sunday Nwasah has assured that the State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo was working towards holding local government polls in the state.
Nwasah who spoke to journalists in Awka said he is personally aware of the burning zeal within the governor to better the state, and that the good thing was that he has the capacity to turn things around.
The former APGA Local Government chairmanship aspirant of Anambra West Local Government Area and grassroot mobiliser said he is aware of this because he was among the APGA party faithful who went to Isuofia, the hometown of the governor in 2016 to convince him to run for governor on the party's platform.
He said: "There is no doubt about the capacity of the governor to deliver on his promises. The good thing is that he is one man who everyone knows his capacity and ability to deliver.
"It is true that the expectations from Anambra people are high, but the governor is also aware of it and has been working very hard to ensure that he meets the yearnings of the people.
"About the local government election which you asked, I must tell you that as a grassroot politician, that is my major interest, but it would not be right to rush the governor into that project this early. I know he is working towards it, but it would be too early to start asking him to hold the election now.
"I'm only advising that people should be patient with him. He is working it out, and I'm sure he will conduct the election at a very convenient time. One of the best things former Governor Obiano did for Anambra was to let Soludo succeed him. Just wait and see what he will do in this state."
When asked if he will still contest for local government election again, after giving it a shot over eight years ago, Nwasah said his aspiration is still alive.
"I'm still passionate about serving the people of Anambra West, and I will still contest. You know I contested about eight years ago and won the ticket of APGA, but I was told to step down. I'm even of the view that since after then, I should have been compensated with the transition committee chairmanship.
"Very luckily, the tenure of the transition committee chairmen has come to an end, and I'm confident that Soludo will give me the opportunity to serve my people as chairman as I have always desired. It is even better for me this time because in Anambra West Local Government Area, it is the turn of Ifitte Anam to produce the next chairman, and that is where I come from."
