The Human Rights,
Liberty Access, and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE), has condemned the plan
by the newly appointed Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroluem Company
(NNPC), to increase fuel pump price in the country.
In a press statement
issued in Onitsha, Anambra state by Dede Uzor A Uzor, the Chairman Board of
Trustees (B.o.T) HURIDE and National Publicity Secretary, Campaign for
Democracy (CD), this increase amount to a plot to increase the
suffering of Nigerian masses of this country.
He said "Nigerians
have been undergoing serious economic suffering in the hands of APC led Federal
government.
Over one million
citizens have been plunged into poverty since the inception of this regime.
Price of fuel has been
increased for the second time in the last six years of this oppressive
regime and the criminal increments are not reflecting in the lives of ordinary
citizens.
Over 25,000 citizens
have been murdered because of lack of security with criminality being
baptized with different names like Boko Haram, banditry, armed men, armed
robbery, kidnapping, armed Fulani herdsmen, assassination and among others"
Recently, he said, the
Federal government approved $1 million for improvement of security nationwide
but this huge amount has not improved capacity of Nigerian security
apparatus.
He said that they
learnt that an average of 20 citizens died everyday as a result of insecurity
nationwide and criminality
He further said
"Nigerians have been experiencing their worst economic decays in the
development of infrastructural development since the advancement of democracy
in Nigeria.
"We call on the the
new NNPC managing director to immediately resign his appointment for lack of
vision and plot to obnoxiously murder many Nigerians through his
planned fuel increment" he said.
HURIDE boss advised
Nigerians to resist this oppressive regime by coming out in mass to protest
against this despotic administration cum regime.
"We should adopt
the Venezuela method to push out unpopular and dictatorial regime who
value animals more than her citizens.
Nigerians should take
their destiny in their own hands.
Eenough is enough"
Dede Uzor warned
