The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, an apex socio-political youth group in the South East geopolitical zone, Monday, lambasted governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for allegedly allowing his officers to impound a vehicle belonging to a son of a widow.
COSEYL, in a statement signed by the President General, Hon. Goodluck Ibem, said "Our attention has been drawn to the plight of a widow by name Dorothy Dike and her fatherless son Osinachi Ndukwe whose bus was impounded by the Lagos State government headed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for traffic offence and auctioned at the rate of N450,000.
"It is very painful that the widow's son Osinachi who have no father and decided to make an honest living by buying a bus on hire purchase at the rate of N1.8 million in other to feed his widowed mother, his little child and siblings was arrested for traffic offence and was sentenced to three months imprisonment for driving against traffic and in the process lost his three-year-old daughter during his jail term due to non-availability of funds to cater for her health.
"Unfortunately, the day of his release from prison was also the same day his car which he is struggling to complete the hire purchase payment was auctioned for a paltry sum of N450,000. Laws are not made to wicked or oppress the people. This particular law is purely made to oppress the people most especially the less privileged and the poor among us.
"Being heartless and wicked to a widow and a fatherless boy is the worst thing anybody can do. This particular law is retrogressive in all sense of the word. Without mincing words, Governor Sanwo-Olu oppresses the poor, widows and the fatherless among us. His administration is grossly insensitive to the plight of the people. Chai what a wicked world!.
"The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwu-Olu has disobeyed God. In the book of Exodus 22 : 22 - 24 it says " You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you do mistreat them and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry, and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless. The governor taught he was oppressing the poor widow and his son, he never knew he was challenging God himself.
In Isaiah 1 : 17 it says " learn to do good; seek Justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widows cause. Dr. Olajide Adediran aka Jandor the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, Governorship candidate of Lagos State and his running mate and Actress Funke Akindele has just obey God by pleading the cause of the widow, correcting oppression and seeking justice for the widow and the fatherless. We commend them for showing kindness to the less privileged. They have done so well.
Now Osinachi Ndukwe can now go back to business which will unable him to take care of her widowed mother and family after this great and August visit of Dr. Olajide aka Jandor and Actress Funke to their home to wide away their tears. Truly we can now confirm that good people who mean well for others still exist in our generation.
It is high time we defend the defenseless, the widows, the fatherless and the weak among us who have no one to plead their cause. "
