Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ossai, Saturday, announced postponement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State congress for Anambra State.

Ossai, who is the Congress Committee Chairman for the exercise, stated this at stakeholders meeting held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, noting that the exercise earlier scheduled today ( Saturday, October 19) would hold next week Wednesday or Thursday.

The Deputy governor, who spoke through the Committee's Secretary, Mr Ndubuisi Eneh and other members, explained that postponement was due to logistics and other challenges, adding that they were also meeting with all stakeholders so as to ensure that the congress holds without rancour or crisis before, during or after.

According to him, the committee would not only work with the delegate lists upheld by the Appeal Court and certified by the National body of the party but had also deviced means of ensuring that only the authentic delegates would be allowed access to the congress venue.

He further assured the party faithful that the exercise would be credible, free, fair and transparent, because according to him, they were ready to work with the initial mandate given to them with a view to ensure that PDP comes stronger in Anambra State.

Also speaking, two aspirants for the office of State Chairman of PDP, Hon. Chidi Chidebe and Hon. Amechi Onowu demanded for a level playing ground for all the contestants, which according to them would make it possible for eventual winners to work together with those that lost out in order to reposition the party in Anambra State.

Contributing, the State Acting Chairman of PDP, Engr Chigozie Igwe, the immediate past Chairman of the party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, and former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Josephine Anenih, charged the congress committee to shun all kinds of inducements by conducting a free and fair State congress that would stabilise the party for Anambra State 2025 gubernatorial poll and beyond.
