No fewer than 500 members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,Anambra state, have backed the new Vice Chancellor, Prof Bernard Odoh.
Though, they say Wednesday that ASUU is not divided at UNIZIK adding that they will not allow few persons they described as disgruntled elements to cause chaos and mayhem in the institution.
The members, led by Prof Chinedu Onyeizugbe, while briefing reporters under the auspices of 'Concerned ASUU members' on the situation in UNIZIK, said the position of the VC would be difficult to reverse because due process was duly followed
They said the ASUU National President erred in by describing Prof Odoh as a 'doctor',_adding that he should desist from causing confusion in UNIZIK
"If that Press Release emanated from ASUU National President, it makes tears to run
down our eyes –especially, when we remember our founding ASUU Leaders
such as Comrade Chukwuka Okonjo and Comrade Festus Iyayi.
"We advise ASUU President to please, desist from ridiculing the image of Nnamdi Azikiwe
excluding over 500 Senators.
"We hereby call on relevant security agencies to hold ASUU National President and NEC members responsible should there be any
breakdown of law and order in the university following their unwarranted and reckless statements “provocation and anarchy’’
capable of causing unrest in the university.
6. There are no pseudo authorities in Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
"The Vice Chancellor and the Registrar were duly appointed following extant
university laws and due process within the powers of the governing council backed by the judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction" the members said
