FRSC partners NUJ to end road crashes, others in Anambra

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command has sought partnership of the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for effective traffic management and control.

The state Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi, who stated this while interacting with some executive members of NUJ, Anambra State Council in his office, said the media were force to reckon with in traffic control, management and public sensitisation.

According to him, the command prefers having the media as Special Marshals as they would help to sanitise the road of reckless driving, accidents and traffic congestion.

He said the command has zero tolerance to extortions, briber or corruption, urging the media to help expose any of their staff or public caught in the act while they were performing their function.

Kumapayi, who said that road accident has reduced drastically since he assumed office, assured that the command would not relent on its public enlightenment programmes through media and other channels of communication.
  
“We clampdown on use of old vehicles because most road accidents are attributable to non maintenance of vehicles, over speeding and carelessness. We have been on various media channels sensitising the public on why they must be road safety conscious at all times.

“The rate of traffic accident have reduced drastically. What we have now is vehicle breakdown. And most of these are vehicles are those on transit from other states heading to other states. Most of drivers within the state are complying. We are sending messages to them, we are increasing our media sensitization. We can’t do this alone without you, the media. NUJ Anambra state is one of the best in the country,” he said.

Continuing, the Sector Commander said “We want your members who can sacrifice their time as to join us as Special Marshals. If they see the areas we are not doing well, they should correct them. We have zero tolerance to bribery and extortions. We want to improve in our performance,” he maintained, adding that his command was always available to join the NUJ on its programmes and meetings.
