By Okechukwu Onuegbu

Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council have rejected alleged continuous exportation of Almajiris from some Northern parts of the country to the  South, describing it as a health risk due to coronavirus pandemic.

The monarchs in a communique issued after their Expanded Executive Committee meeting held at the state government house, expressed concern that some of the  Almajiris may have become infected with COVID-19 before their voyage into the state, thereby exposing their host states to it.

The communique signed by the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers' Council, Obi Alfred  Achebe of Onitsha, and his deputies, the Traditional ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor, and the Traditional ruler of Okakwu Odekpe, Igwe Chuma Onyia, also argued that the Almajiris would not fit into the State's economic, social and cultural environment.

They also urged governor Willie Obiano  not to relent on its war to contain menace of herdsmen, and to double efforts on his various responses to COVID-19 spread in the state.

The traditional rulers who pledged their continued support without reservation to the state administration, enjoined Anambra residents to strictly observe all the COVID 19 health and safety directives, including regular hand washing, wearing of appropriate face masks, maintaining physical distancing, avoiding gathering of more than thirty persons, healthy eating and staying home unless one absolutely has to go out.
