Anambra state police command has arrested a total of 65 persons and impounded 15 vehicles for allegedly violating the nationwide curfew.
The federal government had last week imposed a nationwide curfew which started from May 8 between 8Pm to 6am every day in order to contain the spread of coronavirus disease across the country.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Haruna Muhammed, a Superintendent Police, who announced arrest and seizure of violators vehicles, said the law enforcement would never in enforcing compliance to the executive order to later.
“Between May 8 to May 13, 2020 the Command arrested a total of 65 suspects who violated the Curfew on COVID-19 pandemic in Anambra State. Out of the suspects,24 were arrested at Umunze, 15 in Onitsha and 20 in Nnewi Area Command. Fifteen vehicles were also impounded.
“In Umuchu,a TOYOTA Hummer Bus with registration number JXL 76 YF conveying 19 young men from the North and travelling to Asaba, Delta State were intercepted and turned back. In Awka, Six Suspects were also arrested on the 12/5/2020 at Big ballers lounge Abakaliki Street Awka. The suspects are Ms Nwoye Loveth, Mr )Anigbogu Michael, Mr Michael Ogbonna, Mr Eric Nwafor, Ms Ani Blessing and Ms Mirabel Ishewu,” Muhammed detailed.
He said the cases were under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution, stressing that the Commissioner of Police, Mr John B.Abang urged cooperation and understanding of the public throughout the period.
