People of Ukwulu in Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State, Tuesday, passed a vote of confidence on their traditional Ruler, Igwe Peter Uyanwa allegedly suspended by the state government.
Two separate statements from the Anambra state commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don. Adinuba, and commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy affiars, Mr Greg. Obi claimed that Igwe Uyanwa’s certificate of recognition had been withrawn even as he was suspended for one year following a series of petitions against him.
But addressing mammoth crowd of supporters including an oil magnet, Prince Arthur Eze and over twenty traditional rulers from other communities who were on solidarity visit to his palace, Uyanwa said he remains the traditional ruler of Ukwulu pending when God takes his life.
“Ukwulu made me a king not a paper. They called me and crowned me their traditional ruler before I got a certificate from the goverbment. If they take their certificate, Ukwulu will still have me as their traditional ruler,” Uyanwa stated.
He, however, exonerated governor Willie Obiano from the purposted suspension letter, because according to him, the governor remains his friend and might not have been in known of the issue.
In a solidarity, the Traditional Ruler of Nawfia, Njikoka LGA, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo and his colleague from Alor in Idemili South LGA, Igwe MacAnthony, hailed the monarch for his maturity, assuring Ukwulu kingdom that the issue would be resolved amicably.
On his part, the Anambra state born oil magnet, Prince Arthur Eze, while commending the community for aligning with their monarch, reiterated his promise to help traditional rulers from the state to get what rightly belongs to them from the government.
Eze, who also promised to lead traditional rulers to President Muhammadu Buhari, assured monarchs in the state that he would start paying them N200,000 each from next month should the governor refused to hearken to their voice.
