Two die, 14 injured in a multiple auto crash in Anambra

At least two persons died with 14 injured in auto crash involving five vehicles at Asaba park, Upper-Iweka, Onistha, Anambra State.


FactcheckNg learnt that the crash which occured on Sunday around 1:15pm involved a truck with registeration number XC 416 PK, another truck registered as DTF 249 XA, a Toyota Hiace with number FGG 929 ZD, another Toyota Hiace registered as XB 994 GBK, and Navigator Jeep with registeration number RSH 450 BM.


According to Magret Onabe, the State Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety (FRSC), the probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to brake failure.


"An eyewitnes account shows that the DAF truck driver with registration number: XC 416 PK lost control as a result of break failure  and rammed into other vehicles in his front and finally crashed into the gutter, and the driver took to his hills after the crash.


"22 people compromising (13 male adults, 7 female adults 1 male child, and 1 female child) were involved in the crash. Number of those injured were 14 (7 male adults, 7 female adults). Two male adults died," Onabe stated. 


She added that the FRSC rescue team  rushed the injured victims to Toronto Hospital Boromie Onitsha were two were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and  deposited at the hospital Mortuary.


"The FRSC tow truck is on ground for removal of obsruction. The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi has commiserated with family of the dead victims, and wished the injured victims quick recovery. He urged motoring public to service their vehicles and ensure their vehicles comply to minimal safety standard before hitting the road, and obey traffic rules and regulations at all times," she added.
