Group donates to sickle cell Orphanage homes, urges stakeholders support to SCD sufferers

Friends for Friends International (FFI), a Nongovernmental Organizations, yesterday, paid a surprise visit to the Sickle Cell Orphanage Home at Agulu, Anaocha LGA, Anambra State, donating palliative and strategising to uplift their plights. 


Sickle cell Orphanage homes, founded by the Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder (APLSCD), is housing about thirty Sickle Cell Anaemia sufferers whose parents and loved ones abandoned to die due to their health conditions.


FFI, led by the Vice Chancellor, Caritas University, Enugu, Professor Mike Orji, said they would never relent in reaching out to corporate organisations and individuals to gather more assistance, mobilise support for the homes.


The delegation, which included Mr Emmanuel Ibeabuchi (Justice), Jude Okpala and Uche Nwafor, were touched by the presence of SCD sufferers and how the founder, Mrs Aisha Edward-Maduagwu was taken proper care of them despite the economic hardships in the country.


In separate speeches, Orji, Ibeabuchi and Okpala praised Edwards-Maduagwu for standing out to speak for the voiceless, and urged her never to relent as God would enlarge her coast.


Responding, the National Coordinator, APLSCD, Mrs Aisha Edward-Maduagwu, who incidentally is the Director, Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Homes, commended the group for identifying with them.


Edward-Maduagwu, who explained the history behind formation of the home, including their present challenges, sought for more help from personalities and institutions with a view to fend for the SCD sufferers.
