Group seeks ABS collaboration to improve sensitisation of people on sickle cell anaemia




The CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service Awka, Hon. Chido Obidiegwu, recently played host to the Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, on a familiarization tour to his office in Awka.


The official visit was to form an alliance with the ace broadcaster, to create more platforms for sickle cell sensitization and genotype education, using electronic media as a source of health information and enlightenment.


The national coordinator of APLSCD who led members of the organization and other children from the sickle cell orphanage and underprivileged home Agulu, said they where in ABS to look for more ways to enlighten the public on sickle cell disorder. Mrs Aisha Edward thanked the CEO of ABS for the warm reception, and recognized the station as a veritable platform for information dissemination. 


Hon Chido Obidiegwu while receiving the national coordinator of APLSCD, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu, to ABS Awka, spoke highly of the organization and what it represents in the fight against sickle cell disorder. He said that after his diligent investigation of the activities of Aisha Edward and APLSCD, he came to find out that Aisha Edward is more like a missionary and so deserves every necessary human support. 


“ Enlightenment is very important when we talk about sickle cell disorder, as a media house I can assure you that we would give you all the support and inexhaustible time to talk on our various platforms about sickle cell disorder." 


“This is a war that I'am going to join you to fight, this advocacy you must take to schools, churches, families, market organizations, everybody should be aware of how to prevent sickle cell disease.”


“Love and affection is not enough to make the mistake of bringing in sickle cell children, genotype results should never be compromised on the alter of blind love,” Hon Chido further stated.


In her further remarks, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu thanked the CEO and Anambra Broadcasting Service for being immensely supportive to the organization. The radio station of ABS had been running some advertorials and calls for assistance on the sickle cell orphanage and underprivileged home Agulu, particularly on the twins who broke down with sickle cell crisis and were admitted at NAUTH Neni. She reiterated her resolve to continue championing sickle cell advocacy not minding the numerous challenges and distractions.


A presentation of the Anambra State Sickle Cell Disease (Prevention and Eradication) Law, was the highpoint of the meeting, with appeals to governments and other stakeholders to join hands in the fight against sickle cell disorder.
