The Plight of Disabled Employed Staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has come to the fore, as their physical disabilities seemed doubled by the institution's refusal to pay them about five years salaries.

The affected staff who are yet to be paid after about five years of employment with necessary papers have called on well meaning individuals to intervene to safe them from their terrible plight.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the affected disable unizik staff, Mr Onukwuwe Chijioke, the visually impaired staff lamented that given the economic realities of the country, their condition is worse off without the payment of their salaries, stipend or palliative for them to cope with.

They plead for urgent attention to save them from untold hardship and death.

"The ten disabled staff called out the Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone for lack of attention to their sad situation. They revealed that since December 2020 and May 2023 that the Federal Government IPPIS integrated payroll system commenced, none of the physically challenged have been captured even with some going to Abuja with necessary papers.

" Those with families amongst the affected disabled staff, emphasized that meeting up to family needs has become extremely difficult, as only but urgent intervention will save them," the statement added.
