The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, Dr Uche Onyegbu,
Friday, charged the newly admitted students of the citadel of learning to shun all
forms of misconduct and study hard to acquire skills and knowledge capable of making
them to become self reliance upon graduation.
Onyegbu, who gave the charge at the 40th matriculation
ceremony of the institution, argued that Polytechnic Education prepares committed
students for excellence.
According to him, at Oko Poly, decency and good conduct were
part of their culture which were also why they shun all form of indecent dressing
and behaviour.
“As the polytechnic is
a technical and vocational education, it is expected that education and training
will be acquired. This will enable students become self reliant, productive and
independence. Therefore, I am appealing to you to be studious and resist extortion
from lecturers or students under any disguise,”
he added.
He further maintained that the Polytechnic was committed to providing
enabling environment for the students to thrive which is why there are many infrastructural
development ongoing and those already completed.
The programme was attended by the management and staff of the
Polytechnics, including the clergy, some parents and friends of the matriculated
students.
