Nigeria, Global Fund, Bill Gates, others fight healthcare challenges in Global South



Policy making leaders from Nigeria and other countries in the Global South have risen to challenge obstacles preventing healthcare delivery.   The group which included Global Fund and Bill Gates Foundation hinted that

effective allocation of available resources in the health sector is a good option in prioritizing primary health care while promoting local manufacturing of pharmaceauticals can accelerate the achievement of SDG 3 - Good health and well-being in Nigeria. 

Since 2003, Doha Forum has served as a platform for promoting dialogue, bringing together leaders in policy making to discuss critical challenges facing the world, and to build innovative and action-driven networks.                  In a press statement made available to newsmen from Doha, Qatar, yesterday, the Doha Forum Media Anchor and United Nations Interagency Youth Representative, Ify Aronu-Okafor observed that 

the two-day global event which ended yesterday has as its theme "The Innovation Imperative.".             According to the statement, 

Nigeria's  Coordinating Minister for Health & Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammadu Ali Pâte shared  insights during a panel discussion titled "From Challenges to Change: Enhancing Global South health through Collaboration."


Highlighting the far- reaching interventions of the Gates Foundation in health care delivery in Nigeria, the Foundation's President of Global Development, Dr. Chris Elias emphasized the need to prioritise preventative Healthcare in the Global South by strengthening primary healthcare systems and promoting healthy lifestyle. 

    On her part, Sheikha Haya Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Director of Strategic Partnerships at Qatar Fund for Development stressed the necessity of clearly articulating and communicating countries' healthcare needs for more effective and impactful external funding given scarce resources.

Bience Gawanas, Vice Chair of the Global Fund emphasized the importance of effective collaboration and achieving local ownership of healthcare interventions. 

The 22nd Doha Forum and 2024 edition was moderated by Nadder Kabbani, the Director of Research at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs.
