Anambra State Police command, Tuesday, dismissed reports making the rounds that Mr Sunday Nwaka who burnt his wife alive has slumped and died in police custody.
Nwaka, from Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State had last month reportedly poured petrol on his wife, Mrs Chioma and set her ablaze over alleged infidelity.
The mother of five boys later died at a nearby hospital where she was taken by sympathisers as a result of the injuries and pains sustained from the fire.
The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and further handed over to the State police command where a social media report later emerged that he died at the custody.
But when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, a Superintendent of Police (SP), described the reports as fake news aimed at distracting the court proceedings.
The suspect, according to him, was hale and hearty and would face the wrath of law accordingly just as Anambra State government had through the ministry of Women Affairs assured that he would not go unpunished.
