A community leader, Prince Dr Chinedu Ikeanyi of Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State, has sought governor Chukwuma Soludo's intervention to uncover and prosecute those behind the alleged killing of a construction worker and local flutist, Mr Anayo Nworah.
Nworah, 28-year-old father of five from Irunnebo village, Enugwu-Agidi was allegedly beaten to death by some youth of the community on November 11, 2021 when Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah was President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU-Nigeria).
Ikeanyi, who is a titled chief and son of the late traditional ruler of the community, alleged in an open letter that several investigations concerning the incident had not been concluded even as the culprits remain unknown, thereby delaying justice to the slain and his family.
His petition read in part thus, "Nworah was known in Enugwu-Agidi as a peaceful, hardworking, and law-abiding citizen. He was the breadwinner of his household. The ages of his five children range from 12 to 3 years. His last child, Abuchi, deserves a special mention because he was born after the death of his father and consequently has been denied the opportunity to know his father.
"As of January 2026, no individual has been held accountable for this killing. There are widespread allegations that intimidation, abuse of influence, and the use of armed thugs have obstructed justice in this case. He was mobbed, chased across multiple public locations, and beaten to death over several hours. The assault reportedly began at Ugwu Ogu area, Achalla Village, while the deceased was transporting bags of cement to a construction site on his motorcycle. He was forcibly pulled down and assaulted.
"At a point during the beating, he fled to St. John's Catholic Church, later to Eke Market, and subsequently toward his family home. He was finally rendered unconscious and died after sustaining a fatal blow to the groin area. The following individuals have been identified by eyewitnesses and community members as participants (suspects) in the assault: Chukwuebuka Anuta, Chibuzo Okoye, Agafena Ndupuechi, Emeka Ojukwu, Nnamdi Anameze, Obi Akusuo, and Chibuogwu Ogu.
"I respectfully request that your office order an independent and thorough investigation into his killing; direct the arrest, interrogation, and prosecution of all persons found culpable; ensure protection for witnesses willing to testify in this matter; provide humanitarian assistance to the widow and five children of the deceased; and facilitate traditional burial rites for the deceased in accordance with Enugwu-Agidi customs, which remain incomplete due to fear and intimidation."
He added that the case has been filed in court in suit no. NN/MISC 29c /2022 Chukwuebuka Anuta VS Commissioner of Police 20 - 10 - 2022 and it was billed to be heard in court on Friday, January 2026.
