A practising nurse, Mrs. Mercy Iloanya, has recovered a new born baby dumped in front of a shop close to hers situated along Pope Paul II Major Seminary School, Nodu, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State.

The less than a month baby was discovered in a bag at about nine o'clock in the morning making those available to contribute baby items for his immediate upkeep.

Iloanya said that when she noticed a bag containing the baby in front of neighbour's shop she contacted a man she saw along the street who further confirmed that the baby was alive.

As a result, the woman, Mrs Chika Onyema, whose shop the baby was dropped in front of was contacted and she confirmed the baby.

Onyema said that when they opened the bag, they saw a written note accompanying the baby in which the mother appealed for help to take care of the child.

The Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) further helped to send the baby to Police B Division in Awka, where an entry was made and later took to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mother and Child Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, at the instance of the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
