By Uche Chukwu , Onitsha. The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), has presented certificates of return to the 44 candidates of the party who will carry the Party flags in the forthcoming National and State Assembly elections. The certificates of return were 44 comprising three senatorial candidates, 11 House of Representatives and 30 House of Assembly members. The certificates were presented to victorious Senatorial flag bearers namely: Senator Stella Oduah (Anambra North Senatorial District), Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu (Anambra South) and Hon. Dozie Nwankwo (Anambra Central). Among those who were issued their certificates of return as the Federal House of Representatives candidates of the party were Hon. Paschal Agbodike (Ihiala, Hon. Maureen Gwacham (Oyi/Ayamelum), Barrister Chukwudi Oli (Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia), Dr. Chibuike Ofobuike (Aguata), Benjamin Chinedu O (Anambra East and West), Anthony Nworah (Onitsha North and South), and Hon. Obby Nwankwo (Awka North and South). The certificates were equally presented to the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze (Ogbaru 1 Constituency), State Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme (Nnewi North), Calistus Nweke Anambra East), Nnadozie Igwe (Nnewi South 1) and John Bosco Nnabugwu (Nnewi South 2). The rest included Innocent Uzoma) Onitsha North 2), Hon. Kingsley Onochie (Idemili North), Hon. Ibemeka (Njikoka) and Kosisochukwu Ibemesi (Oyi), Igwedumma Nwofor (Awka South 1), Obodoezi Chinedu (Ayamelum), among others. The National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mazi Ejimofor Opara who confirmed the list in a media chat in Awka, the State capital, weekend waved aside any potential opposition, stressing that APGA is the party to beat. Ejimofor pointed out that Form EC 13 C was issued to the flag bearers for the Senate, Form EC 13 D to the candidates for the federal House of Representatives and Form EC 13 E to the State House of Assembly standard bearers respectively. He dismissed claims that the open re-election support governor Chukwuma Soludo is giving to President Bola Tinubu of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections will affect the chances of APGA. According to him: "Even before the November 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, we said the "progressives are working together. "In that gubernatorial election, APC fielded governorship and deputy governorship candidates but APGA won the poll overwhelmingly. Our people are politically wise and sophisticated, and if it comes to fielding a Presidential candidate, we know how we play it. "It's nothing new when it comes to the Presidential election.APGA didn't formally field a Presidential candidate, but supported the the party at the centre. Example: APGA supported the Goodluck Jonathan administration of the People's Democratic Party (PDP in 2011. Under the Willie Obiano administration, APGA supported President Muhammadu Buhari of APC in 2019.. This time around, APGA is supporting Tinubu. It has even become more beautiful because the party at the centre professes progressivism. So when we say Progressives are working together, it means, to some very large extent, the ideological colouration of APC, in many ways than expected, aligns with what APGA professes. We have this unwritten Convention to support any party at the centre". Speaking shortly after receiving the certificates and forms, candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Hon. Nwankwo and the House of Representatives candidate for Ihiala Federal Constituency , Hon. Agbodike hailed their constituents for reposing much confidence in them and other candidates of the party and promised to put their interest first in their endeavours. Nwankwo and Agbodike said APGA parades experienced, tested and trusted candidates who have been in the National Assembly, assuring that they would serve as a strong legislative link with governor Chukwuma Soludo to deliver democracy dividends including security, good governance, and wellbeing of the masses.
