Anambra State government has placed ban on construction of speed bumps on the road, vowing that violations would be prosecuted.
The State Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Dr Law Mefor, who disclosed this in a statement, argued that the decision was taken in order to address indiscriminate installation of speed bumps which according to him, has adverse effects on road infrastructure and safety.
"Government of Anambra State hereby informs the Ndị Anambra and the general public, that individuals and communities are no longer permitted to construct speed bumps on public roads without prior approval.
"All speed bumps and their locations must be approved by the State Government. A uniform design for speed bumps will now have to be sought from the State's Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
"Speed bumps will be restricted to critical areas such as markets, churches, schools, and other locations as determined by the government. It will be an offence to construct speed bumps without authorisation or outside approved locations," he added.
