Three ladies allegedly sale 4-year-old baby for N2m in Anambra

Anambra State police command, Sunday, announced arrest of three female suspects for allegedly involving in selling a 4-year-old child for N2,000,000 and another 2-week-old baby for undisclosed amount.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement, named the suspects as Ms Florence Nnakuzie, aged 45, Hannah Ugah, 52 years and Chinasa Daniel, 27 years.

According to him, the suspects who were arrested on 11th of July 2026 at a motor park in Onitsha by Police Operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters, reportedly committed the crime between June and December, 2025.

He revealed that Chinasa Daniel allegedly brought two children comprising a two-week-old baby and a four-year-old child on two separate occasions and handed them over to Hannah Ugah.

"A four-year-old child was subsequently handed over to Florence Nnakuzie and allegedly sold for the sum of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000), while the two-week-old baby was allegedly sold to another woman who is currently at large," he added.

The PPRO further noted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has condemned the act, describing child trafficking as a grave violation of human rights and a crime against humanity, and directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka. 

"He has also ordered operatives to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend every member of the trafficking syndicate and to commence coordinated operations aimed at locating, rescuing, and reuniting the trafficked children with their biological families," he further maintained.
