Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnanna-Oji Ama, has expressed the willingness of the command to support Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in promoting sports for improved mental health and general wellbeing.

Ama disclosed this in a chat with leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter while discussing the annual event themed “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment” holding from August 20 to 21, 2026.

He described sports as vital for mental and physical alertness and urged the media to continue promoting it as ways of encouraging youth to positively channel their energy to sports rather than engaging in drug abuse.

According to him, the Police team was willing to work with SWAN, as well as reposition the sports directorate of the Command so they could keep winning trophies and maintaining healthy living.

Earlier speaking, the State Chairman of SWAN, Comrade Chimezie Anaso, explained that the SWAN event was designed to promote physical fitness, mental alertness and healthy relaxation among journalists and participating teams.

Anaso added that Anambra State Football Association and All Stars Football Club of Awka have signed up to participate in the games lineup for the weekly event.
