The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Wednesday, said it was committed towards the conduct of elections across 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 346 electoral wards.

A group claiming to be members of LG Chairmen and Councillors had dragged Anambra State government, ANSIEC and others to court arguing that their tenure had elapse since they were two years ago.

The ANSIEC Commissioner in-charge of Information and Publicity, Chief Tony Chinedu, who disclosed this in a media chat, said they were not interested in any purported court case having acquired, empowered and trained the relevant officers ahead of the Saturday August 29, 2026 poll.

According to him, out of 22 persons contesting for Chairmanship position, 21 were of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), while the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has only one candidate at Anambra East LG just as the 346 Councillorship candidates were from APGA.

He added that the Commission would introduce Yes/No ballot in all the Council Areas with sole candidates and if a candidate fails to score the highest number of Yes or score 2/3 majority the election would be declared inconclusive.

"If no ballots outweigh that of the Yes Ballot, the candidate will automatically step aside and wait for a fresh election in that locality. ANSIEC is ready for Saturday. We have trained and equipped the adhoc for the tasks ahead. We are not interested in any court case. We are going ahead with the election. We are ready for August 29 Local Govt Election in Anambra," he added
