Ebenebe community in Awka North Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State, Thursday, sought intervention of governor Chukwuma Soludo and federal government as erosion menace threatened to cut off most of their internal roads.
FactCheckNg.com gathered that most of the internal roads connecting the eight villages of Ebenebe together had been washed off by erosion due to flooding even as the palace of their traditional ruler, HRM Igwe Christopher Nnaegbuna is no longer motorable.
Other parts of the community where roads had turned into deathtraps with houses at verge of being collapsed by gully are Umuogbuefi, where the community shares boundary with Enugu State, including Ogulube which is an arable land, and six villages such as Umuajana, Umuoye, Ọbuno, Okpuno, Uwana and Umuaba villages.
Some viral videos from the community had equally shown some of the residents lamenting that gully erosion makes it impossible for them to neither connect with their relatives living within nor transport their agricultural produce to where they could make better sales.
The Traditional Ruler of Ebenebe, HRM Igwe Christopher Nnaegbuna, who confirmed collapsed of road leading to his palace and others, appealed for urgent interventions of the State government and lawmakers representing Awka North and South at the green chamber, Professor Lilian Orogbu and Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central at the red chamber.
Igwe Nnaegbuna explained that constructing the internal roads, including the one connecting Ebenebe to Mgbakwu community would help to open up Awka North LGA for speedy socio-economic development, ease their transportation burdens and increase access to Achalla, the Council's headquarters.
The monarch, who is also the Deputy Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, further reminded the federal government that dualizing Ofemili road up to Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State as earlier approved by the past administration would help to improve many lives and further decongest traffics along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.
