Nigeria at 66: Ekwusigo Mayor Obi Salutes Nigerians, Calls for Renewed Hope and National Unity

The Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Hon. Chimezie Obi, has joined Nigerians at home and abroad in celebrating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, describing the occasion as a time to reflect on the nation’s journey while renewing commitment to peace, unity and sustainable development.


In a goodwill message marking the anniversary, Mayor Obi congratulated the people of Ekwusigo and Nigerians across the country, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a more peaceful, prosperous and united nation.


He stressed the importance of unity, peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship, noting that Nigeria’s rich diversity remains a major strength that must be harnessed for national development and progress.


The Mayor also highlighted the critical role of local government administration in bringing the dividends of democracy and good governance closer to the grassroots. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives aimed at promoting grassroots development and improving the welfare and wellbeing of residents.


According to him, the Independence Anniversary is also an opportunity to remember and honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and other citizens who contributed to the growth and development of the nation.


Mayor Obi called on the people of Ekwusigo to continue supporting peace, community development and initiatives capable of creating economic opportunities for young people and families.


As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the Ekwusigo Mayor expressed optimism that through unity, patriotism and collective responsibility, Nigerians can overcome challenges, sustain progress and build a brighter future for generations yet unborn.
