*as Court gives verdict in his favor

At last respite has come the way of Senator Victor Umeh, the Anambra Central senatorial district as an Abuja Federal High Court presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, has dismissed a suit filed by one Chidi Okoye against his nomination as the Anambra Central senatorial district candidate for the fast approaching January 16, 2027 election.
Okoye was challenging Umeh's nomination as the duly elected candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) at the May 29, 2026 Primary Election of the party.
Addressing journalists at Ogidi, Idemili North Council headquarters this afternoon at a media briefing, a national chieftain of the NDC - Chief Maurice Ebo expressed "strong confidence in Senator Umeh to give the senatorial district more voice and effective representation at the National Assembly."
Chief Ebo described the High Court verdict as cheering and reassuring.
He noted that the judgement came timely to enable the Umeh ample time to prepare well and campaign adequately for his reelection.
He disclosed that the court had among other reasons held that "nomination issue was an internal affair of a political party, hence the court lacked jurisdictional powers to deliver into it". It consequently dismissed the suit on that premise.
The Court therefore upheld Umeh's nomination as the lawful candidate of NDC for Anambra Central Senatorial District for the coming January 16,2027 National Assembly Elections
Umeh will now face Chief Dozie Nwankwo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Sen Uche Ekwunife of the All Progressives Congress (APC); and Princess Helen Mbakwe among other candidates in the January 16,2027 contest.
