By Okechukwu Onuegbu

The Anambra State Chapter of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Wednesday, urged residents to be cautious of the imminent flood disaster between August and October this year.

The State Director, NOA, Barrister Charles Nwoji, who gave the warning while addressing a meeting of the Association of Past Presidents General of Anambra State (APPAS), recalled that the Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Institute, Professor Mansur Bako Matazu earlier made the prediction at a Training Workshop on August 15.

According to Nwoji, the event was part of the activities of the Agency organised to engage the Stakeholders on urgent need for effective response to the current flood disaster in the country.

He regretted that flooding could lead to loss of lives and properties, and appealed to Stakeholders in the State to educate their people on the dangers of blocking the water channels with refuse.

The NOA boss further advocated for immediate demolition of buildings erected on water ways, desilting of drainages, among others.

Earlier, the National President of Association of Past Presidents General in Anambra State, Chief Omeife Omeife, pledged unwavering support of the Association to NOA with a view to taking the messages of the program down to the grassroots in the State for more effective awareness creation.
