Orumba North and Orumba South LGAs of Anambra recently honoured one of their sons, Chief Godwin Maduka, a-US based medical doctor, with a pomp and pageantry. The event which gathered leadership of thirty-one communities including traditional rulers of both Council Areas witnessed eulogies from the populace.
Maduka, the Owner/CEO and Medical Director of the Las Vegas Pain Institute & Medical Center, largest pain treatment center in Nevada, was crowned Okeosisi Orumba (Iroko)due to his numerous community intervention and philanthropic gestures. His specialties include chronic and acute pain management, anesthesiology, and interventional pain management. His wife, Stella also got a crown of Ugo ka ibe ya mma (Best among equal).
He spearheaded the change of his community name from Nkerehi to Umuchukwu, a community in Orumba South LGA which he also lifted to a city by providing her with social amenities such as road and electricity, built several houses for widows and poor,built primary and secondary schools, a medical Centre and a Police Station.
Others include ongoing Police Academy and Police College, Churches, community and Civic Centre, seventeen storey building, village hall, Igwe’s palace, State High Court, office of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among other federal and state institutions.
Speaking at the traditional rulers, Chairman, Orumba South Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Igwe Samuel Uche, noted that Godwin was a man anointed by God to save them to reach both the rich and the poor, an act he said was responsible for him been closer to Governor Willie Obiano.
Uche, who is Ezira monarch, explained “Godwin is doing a marvelous work in our Council Areas.You can see how he singlehandedly transformed it. We love what he is doing. That is why we decided to bestow him the title of Okosisi.”
On his part, HRH Obi Peter Ezeamama, traditional ruler of Enugwu-Umuonyia, said they were marveled with his several developmental strides including human and structural development, scholarship and empowerment he gives to the less priviledged.
Other traditional rulers resent at the occasion were Igwe Benson Ofu, Ihite; Igwe Festus Njoku, Ogboji; Igwe Benard Emjuo, Eziagu; Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya, Owerre-Ezukala; and others spoke highly of the beneficiary, saying he merited it.
On his part, Chief Raymond Onyegu, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South LGA, called on wealthy persons in the state to emulate Maduka by developing their respective communities.
“Government at all levels cannot provide all the needed basic facilities to make life enjoyable to its citizens. Those God has blessed should partner with government at various levels within their domain to develop their areas to ensure a safer society” he said.
Onyegu said that the idea of asking for wealthy persons to partner state government in providing public facilities was to help in job creation for the teeming unemployed persons in the state, even as it would help reduce crime wave and rekindle spirit of love, progress and unity among the people.
Mrs Veronica Adinchezor, Woman Leader of Orumba South LGA described Dr Mmaduka as a man of the people, adding that the chieftaincy title was a testament to his support to humanitarian service to his community and society at large.
Responding, Dr Godwin Maduka promised to continue to support Anambra state government at all times in developing the state, adding that he would build Dr Godwin Maduka Legacy Centre in Orumba South secretariat .
