As Nigeria marked 59 years independence anniversary, Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has called for a collaborative effort with the entire populace to entrench good governance at all facets of the country.

Obiano, while delivering President Muhammadu Buhari speech at Independence Day event held on Tuesday at Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, expressed optimism that the country would recover from its present challenges and foster inclusive economic development, defend and protect her citizens with kind supports of her citizenry.

He further declared November 16 every year as a public holiday in honour of the first Nigeria indigenous Governor General and President, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was born on the said date, and appealed to the federal government to join suit by naming same date nationwide public holiday.

Meanwhile, a philanthropist and the Chief-Executive-Officer, Orient Group of Companies, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, has called for peace, unity and patriotism among the leaders and the led which according to him, would help in transforming Nigeria into great nation in line with aspirations of her founding fathers.

Ezeemo, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in a Goodwill message issued to journalists on Tuesday, pointed out that at 59 Nigerians ought to review the visions, the missions and the dreams of their founding fathers and apply them accordingly for a greater tomorrow.

"They had their differences but they placed a greater premium on a progressive, united and stronger Nigeria. The task of nation building is a collective and a progressive one. We have to individually and collectively be thoughtful of what we can do for Nigeria to be better so as to improve her fortunes,” he said.

In a related development, the Speaker, Anambra state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, in his independence anniversary message, praised the efforts of foremost political leaders in making the country one indivisible entity, and enjoined Nigerians to embrace virtues capable of uplifting the people and uniting the nation.

Okafor also implored the political class to make peace and progress of the country their top priority as wwell as to have interest of the masses at hand during policy formulations and executions.
