We are breeding new world champions through NPG, Police CP

The Anambra state police Commissioner and Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the ongoing 2020 police games, Mr John Abang has assured Nigerians that the game would produce new breeds of champions for the country and African continent generally.

Abang, who stated this in an interview at Dr Alex Ekwueme square, one of the venues for the 12 biennial game entitled promoting community policing through sports, revealed that athletes were disciplined, cooperating and discharging their talents optimally.

“Our athletes have been well behaved, they have shown good spirit of sportsmanship and positive competition. It is expected that after these games, Nigeria will have a new breed of champions from the police because the police have been a brewery for world champions in all sports.

“So far, the games have been wonderful, the events are going on at the various venues as scheduled and there are no hitches. I want to also appreciate the  Anambra government for putting up a high level of organisation within a short time. Their effort is commendable,” Abang added.

Factcheckng reports that sports festival which gathered over 3000 athletes from 12 police headquarters and the force headquarters has produced some gold, bronze, silver medalists and others in different sporting events.

In the male Football played at Otuocha Township stadium on Tuesday, zone 7 has qualified for semi finals with 19 points and leads group A with five points from three games following a win and two draws, while zone 5 (37 points), zone 6 has four points while Zone 8 has three points.

 John Godwin of Zone 7 is currently the highest goal scorer with three goals to his credit after helping his zone to enter semi finals after 1-1 draw with Zone 2.

In the handball male category, zone 10 got 12 points, zone seven scored 11, zone seven  got 14 against zone three  that got 4 points in the female competition, among others.
