Address the imbalance not rearresting Nnamdi Kanu, University don tells FG.

By OGEMDI OZOEMENAM, Obosi.

The rearrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is quite uncalled for, instead the Federal Government should address the imbalance the man has been clamouring for.

Again, the invasion of Sunday Igboho's home is illegal taking into cognizance that everybody has the right to self-determination which is not treasonable felony.

These were the views of Professor Obiekwe Uriel Nwanolue, a Professor of Political Science from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam while speaking with our Correspondent on the state of the Nation in Obosi.

He said the rearrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is an attendant issue that has culminated to the marginalisation of the Igbo, agitation for restructuring, among others.

"The suspect has been agitating for the independence of the Sovereign State of Biafra. From his anticedents, I haven't seen his action as a threat to sovereign integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And moreso, let us ask ourselves pertinent questions. The agitation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is it called for, is it rightful, is it fair, is it legal and is it genuine? The answer is yes.

"Going by the International Law, Nnamdi Kanu possesses the right of self-determination. He is an independent citizen of the Great Britain. The question is, all those factors that necessitated Nnamdi Kanu's agitation, how could they be addressed? Are they true? The answer is yes. Have they been addressed? The answer is no.

"Not only Nnamdi Kanu, the Niger Delta and Afeniferes are also agitating. Northern Elders Forum had asked President Muhammadu Bihari to balance the imbalance. Lopsided appointments, unemployment, lack of industrialisation, excruciating economic crunch, poverty, poor infrastructural facilities, external debts and loans among others are the order of the day in Nigeria. Come to think of it, who will service the debts so borrowed and who will bear the concormitant effect?", Prof Nwanolue querried.

He noted that the imminent social revolution facing Nigeria can be averted if government can focus on human capital development, creating opportunities for employment and social welfare geared towards reducing socio-economic inequality and poverty in the country.

According to him, if the country's resources are judiciously distributed, virtue would be the order of the day and the poor masses will be better for it.

On the issue of insecurity rocking the country, especially in the South East region, Prof Nnanolue who specializes in Nuclear and Quantum Politics, criticized the state and federal governments for failing in their duty to protect their citizens, calling on them to make use of available options to tackle insecurity.

He noted that the spate of insecurity plaguing the country can be curbed if the system is restructured to bring governance closer to the people and corruption fought to a standstill.

Prof Nwanolue who decried the poor condition of infrastructure in the south east states, lashed out at the region governors, saying they need to rise up to their constitutional responsibilities of providing needed amenities for the people.

He lamented that the governors and other political leaders have disconnected from the people, leaving the masses who ply the roads in continuous suffering, adding that absence of basic infrastructures will continue to affect the socio economic growth of the region.
