IPOB killings, crime against humanity--group alleges

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

An NGO, Foundation of Movement for Good Governance (FMGG), has condemned the recent clash between some members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and some security agents at Enugu which led to killings of some individuals, describing it as a crime against humanity.

FMGG in a statement signed by its Anambra State Chairman, Media/ICT, Comrade  Uchenna Ezeadigwe, said the act should have been avoided since according to them, the “innocent and defenceless young people were not carrying arms” but were "simply having a meeting.”

“It is also a crime against humanity and those that carry out such murderous operations and dole out such orders become automatic candidates for the International Criminal Court at the Hague. It strengthens their cause, hardens their hearts, emboldens their resolve, legitimises their struggle and wins them sympathy and new friends all over the world.

“Repression fuels the struggle for liberation and freedom rather than stifle it. The more IPOB youths are killed the more their ranks will swell. We must build bridges and not burn them. We must have the courage to talk to those who we may disagree with but who genuinely feel hurt and aggrieved and bring them back to the table,” it submitted.

They further urged President Muhammad Buhari to find what he termed “ more civilised and humane way to resolve our differences. There is NOTHING to be gained in shedding blood and the killing of citizens. The President should call for negotiation and dialogue with them.”
