The crisis threatening peaceful coexistence of people of Nanka community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State seemed to be far from been resolved as one of the seven villages has threatened to pulled out of the moves to make peace if governor Willie Obiano led administration fails to intervene.
The village, Amakor, in a release signed by the Chairman, Amakor Njikoka Development Union, Mr Obinna Ilo, alleged that “some individuals have hijacked the peaceful community and introduced divide and rule kind of disorder that is rocking the boat of the town for years now. They suppress accountability and stifle opposition to suite their misadventure. They in place of liberty, instate oppression and suppression, then turn around to paint picture of peace, when there is none."
The release, which also dismissed as false and deceiving, a statement accredited to the Traditional ruler of Nanka, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo and some executive of Nanka Patriotic Union (NPU), that the community was peaceful and without any crisis.
According to them, Amakor Village has borne the brunt of the evil machinations of the community leadership, even as traditional prime minister (Onowu) they were supposed to produce by order of seniority, were deprived them by a few cabal who bypassed them to elect someone from a junior village.
The village head however stated that they believed in Igwe Godwin Ezeilo as the monarch of the community, but disagreed with his use of what they called an alien constitution to administer Nanka.
Some weeks ago, another group, Umuokweghi/Ezeofor Royal family of Enugwu Nanka rejected Ezeilo as monarch of the community, alleging that he was crowned when the late former monarch of the community, Igwe Gilbert Ofomata was yet to be accorded his final rite.
