Jubilation in Anambra as Ozigbo thrashed Ekwunife, others to grap PDP guber ticket

The emergence of Mr Valentine Ozigbo as the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra State candidate has been greeted with wild jubilation.


Ozigbo, the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, on Saturday, June 26, 2021, in a guber primary held at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, polled a total of 62 votes to defeat his closet rival, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, who garnered 58 votes.


The head of the electoral panel, His Excellency Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, stated that Senator Uche Ekwunife, who currently represents Anambra Central at the National Assembly scored 44 votes. 


Of the 16 a


spirants who obtained the PDP nomination and declaration of interest forms, 12 aspirants were present at the venue and participated in the voting process.


Reacting to Ozigbo's victory, a community leader, Chief Odinma Ofumelu, described the victory as expected, noting that the candidate was the most qualified and capable to defeat candidates of other political parties.


Also speaking, Mrs Ngozi Odumodu, urged Anambra voters to rally round Ozigbo for greater Anambra, as according to her, he has a clear vision and mission to reposition the state. 



On his part, the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, while  congratulating Ozigbo, implored other contestants that participated in the just concluded primary not to see the conclusion of the gubernatorial primaries “as the end of the beginning, but rather  the beginning of the end," see it as “a  journey of building a better Anambra State for  the future of our children and the true “light of the nation.”
