As the world marks International Day of Girl Child Development, a cross section of women in Anambra State have appealed for sustainable women empowerment nationwide.
Speaking in interview, the Coordinator, World Wide Organisation for Women Africa Incorporated, Ms Nkem Umeadi, argued that if girls are encouraged or empowered by their parents and government they would bring out the best in them.
Umeadi, who hinted that it was in the past males were more preferred to females, hailed the theme for the year, The time is now, our Rights- our future, which according to him, appeals for more voice to be given to women.
Also speaking, an educationist, Prof Obiageri Orogbu, maintained that a schooled girl child could succeed in any field of life, as well as distinguish herself in any chosen career.
She said that her political career was induced by the knowledge aquired over the years in both earlier life socialisation and learned knowledge.
Others including Mrs Grace Anagor, a community leader in Aboatulu kindred Enugwu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area; Rotarian Joy Mbachi of the Rotary International; appealed to parents to give rights to their children irrespective of their genders.
