Red Cross partners Police, earmark ₦15m, other palliatives for 500 flood victims in Anambra

 





The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Thursday, entered into partnership with the Zone 13 of Nigerian Police Force Ukpo, Anambra State with a view to secure and provide for the flood victims in the State.


According to a statement from Zone 13 Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Ms Josephine Ihunwo, a Superintendent of Police, the partnership was reached when a team from NRCS led by Engr. Kingsley Okoye visited the AIG, Olofu Tony Adejoh in his office.


Okoye during the visit told the AIG represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Zonal Criminal Investigations Department, DCP Umar Mohammed, that they would be visiting about 500 households affected by flooding at Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ogbaru Local Government Areas  to support them with the sum of ₦30,000.00 each, which is a total of ₦15,000,000.


The statement reads, "The team visited in order to establish synergy with the Nigeria Police Force on security situation, security assessment and flood ligament in Anambra State. The AIG represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Zonal Criminal Investigations Department, DCP Umar Mohammed, and the management team warmly and professionally received the team led by Engr. Kingsley Okoye.


"The Assistant Inspector-General of Police assured the team of maximum support in the area of security and equally guaranteed that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police will engage with the team for further on-the-ground security emplacements towards the achievement of their laudable efforts.


"The NRCS team notified the Police that the targeted areas for their operations are Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ogbaru Local Government Areas respectively which were devastated by flood. They also pledged to support the flood victims which affected about five hundred affected households, with the sum of N30,000.00 each, and drilling of water boreholes will be carried out in the affected communities."
