Intervene in our erosion challenge, locating Southeast skills acquisition centre in Anambra community, NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Friday, appealed for Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo's intervention in addressing an erosion challenge in the camp and locating Southeast skills acquisition centre in Umuawulu.


The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma, stated this at swearing in ceremony of 1,610 corps members, comprising 702 males and 908 admitted for 2023 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course in Anambra, held at Nnamdi Azikiwe unity permanent orientation camp in Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, Awka South LGA.


Iruma also called on other relevant authorities, including Awka South LGA to expidite action towards locating the proposed NYSC South East Area Skill Acquisition Centre in Umuawulu, so that the facility would be more accessible to corps members and youth of the surrounding communities to acquire skills.

 

"I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to both the State and Local

Govermment authorities for intervention in the area of locating the proposed NYSC

South East Area Skill Acquisition Centre in Umuawulu. This will provide Corps

Members and the entire community the opportunity to acquire valuable skills that

will enable them to become self-employed and contribute to the development of the

State," she noted.


She, however, urged the corps members to utilise the orientation course to learn important skills, imbibe discipline and foster a sense of nationhood, unity and build friendships and develop leadership

qualities.


While commending the Anambra State government and host Communities, she further appealed to the Anambra State government to "speedily intervene in the

erosion menace currently threatening the structures of the orientation camp" with a view to save the facility from danger.


"I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the host communities of

Umuawulu/Mbaukwu as well as the Awka South Local Government administration

for their warm reception and hospitality. Your support and cooperation have made

it possible for us to hold this Orientation Course successfully," she noted.


She also extolled governor Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development/Chairman

NYSC Goveming Board, Hon. Patrick Aghamba, and  the Chief Judge of Anambra State, His Lordship Hon. Justice Onochie Anyachebelu represented by Hon. Justice H.O. Ozoh and members of the Federal and State Establishments and Agencies here present.
