Five die, four injured, as container fell on commercial bus in Anambra

Not fewer than five people died on Friday, at Odumodu junction, Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State as a container felled off a moving truck and landed on a commercial bus along the Onitsha/Enugu expressway.

An eyewitness said the incident which occurred at about 7.30am, was due to failed portion of road, adding that the truck with registration number Daf/Leyland T-19094LA was driving towards Onitsha, while the Mistibushi L300 bus with registration number: XE245AWK was driving towards Awka when it happened.

"The two vehicles were enroute to different locations; one to Awka and the other to Onitsha, the two vehicles got to the spot at same time and due to the weight of the truck, the container fell on the bus and crashed," the source noted. 

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, who confirmed the report, announced that ten people were involved in the accident but two women and two men sustained injury, while one man escaped unhurt.

"FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje took the injured victims to Divine Care Hospital, Umunya for medical attention, while the dead victims were taken to Chira Hospital for doctors confirmation before deposition at New Jerusalem Mortuary, Nteje," he added.

He further sympathized with the family of the dead victims, as well as urged motorist to drive with caution, and be observant of the their environment when driving.
