At least three persons reportedly lost their lives on Sunday following collapse of a storey building under construction in Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA.
The incident which occurred in the morning also trapped one more person in the process, sources said.
According to sources, the deceased Mr Chizoba Aniefuna, identified as a builder and his two sons, died instantly while their relative was later rescued and took a nearby hospital.
An eyewitness reported that Nnewi North Transition Committee CHAIRMAN and some official of Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria have visited the scene.
Speaking on the incident, the Anambra State Chairman of Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Engr. Victor Meju, who said the place had been sealed off, identified poor foundation, poor concrete mixture, poor quality of materials, nonconformity to standard and non approval from relevant regulatory authorities as it probable cause.
Meju added that the owner of the collapsed building, Mr. Chukwunafu Anamanjo would be invited for questioning as investigation kicks off to unravel circumstances behind the incident.
Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North LGA, Engr. Chris Obiora cautioned builders and owners to always utilise certified Engineers and other relevant personnel in the building sector, even as he emphasized needs for proper monitoring of building works.
