The Campaign for Democracy (CD) and Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders' Foundation (HURIDE) have flayed the administration of Ahmed Bola Tinubu for not having focus.
Speaking to newsmen in Enugu, the Enugu State capital after their combined executive meeting, the chairman of CD in the South East and the Executive Director ,HURIDE, Dede Uzor A Uzor, said there is no area of administration or policy to show that Tinubu would take Nigeria to the promised land.
Unfortunately, what the new administration specialises in , said Dede Uzor, was to share money among the ruling class, while Nigerians are dying of poverty and lack of food and other basic items due to the continuous rise in inflationary rate.
The groups said never in the history of Nigeria since Independence has hunger been so devastating like this on Nigerians , yet Tinubu's government is not doing anything about it.
They said a responsive government should have declared state of emergency on food so that Nigerians would have food even as they contend with other forms of poverty inflicted on them by All Progressive Congress (APC) government in the last nine years.
They said many Nigerians can't understand the contradictions in Tinubu's administration, crying that there is no money and heavily taxing the masses but the lifestyle of the President and his men does not reflect their no money narrative.
The groups said that it was embarrassing that a president of a country like Nigeria which is bleeding can be buying Yatch for himself and expensive cars for his wife, purchased expensive SUVs for the members of the National Assembly, while over 200 million Nigerians are perishing in multi-dimensional poverty.
They said what it all showed is that the president and his men do not have the interest of the people at heart rather their personal interest, that of their families and friends.
"The attitudes and lifestyles of the president and his men do not reflect what their narrative that the country doesn't have enough resources.
If they are sincere by now they would have cut down the cost of governance.
How can Tinubu mean well for Nigeria when he has no direction? There is no economic team to manage our ailing and fragile economy. No defined foreign policy. No idea of how to revamp our economy" said the rights groups.
The rights activists said Nigerians are languishing in hunger and abject poverty,yet the president is carrying on as if there is nothing happening.
"Insecurity is still. high. Nigerians are being slaughtered on daily basis in every part of the country.
Kidnapping and other forms of crime are far from being abetted" they lamented.
The groups also condemned increasing rights abuse in the country as well as embarrassing and abysmal court judgments in Nigeria in this 21st century. They decried the recent visit by President with over 1300 individuals in the expense of the bleeding country's wobbling economy. Dede Uzor Decried
